eXtensible Markup Language
- A simplified version of the Standard Generalized Markup Language -- SGML.
- Allows for arbitrary markup elements, with arbitrary names, and attributes. For example:

<FULL-NAME> John Smith </FULL-NAME>
<ADDRESS> 4211 McGillicutty Road </ADDRESS>

</PERSONNEL>
- A tool for generic markup.
